It’s Springtime! Out with the old; In with the new!

I love everything about spring. The budding flowers and sprouted greenery everywhere have us all in the mood for a fresh start. Here at Casa, we continue with spring cleaning tasks in more ways than one. We reflect on what has been a year of firsts – our first pandemic and our first pause in accepting pregnant women.

Despite what has unquestionably been one of the most challenging years in Casa de Los Angelitos’ thirty five year history, we feel a deep sense of gratitude to our donors, volunteers, sponsors, and the Board. The truth is we could not have weathered this storm without your support.

Our talented VP, Nelma FitzGerald, completely revamped our website and rolled out a newly designed casadelosangelitos.org! The stunning new design blends technology and accessibility featuring access to resources relevant to our potential residents. The new website also provides convenient ways for our donors to connect with us.

Additionally, we are in the process of upgrading our phone systems to more efficient technology so we are never far away from Casa, allowing volunteers and Board members to access calls in as easy as a few reprograming steps.

Although we are forced to reduce capacity at this time, we have fully resumed receiving applications and conducting interviews. The pandemic also put a complete halt on grants but we never gave up. We persisted in sending new applications and we are starting to receive invitations from our regular donors. We are also receiving engagements from companies that have never heard of us before. One such company, MUFG Union Bank just gave us a grant for $5,000 in mid April!

We all struggled through the pandemic of 2020 but we are still standing and that’s why I planted some flowers in the backyard at Casa, to bring in the vibrant colors of spring. We are excited for all the possibility that 2021 holds – return to providing shelter to pregnant women in crisis.

We continue to need your support to make this mission a reality. Please continue to pray for Casa de Los Angelitos, the residents, and the Board. There were times when it felt hopeless, but Casa persevered and we have emerged into the sunny breath of spring!
