Saint Anthony of Padua was a beloved Catholic priest and Franciscan friar known for his powerful preaching, deep knowledge of Scripture, and compassionate heart for the poor. Born in Portugal in 1195, he originally joined the Augustinian order before becoming a Franciscan after being inspired by the courage of Franciscan martyrs.
Saint Anthony traveled throughout Italy and France preaching the Gospel and helping bring people back to the faith. He became widely known for his wisdom, humility, and miracles. Today, he is especially remembered as the patron saint of lost items, with many people praying to him for help in finding things they have misplaced.
He died in Padua, Italy, in 1231 at only 36 years old and was canonized less than a year later because of the many miracles attributed to him. His feast day is celebrated on June 13, and he continues to inspire people around the world through his example of faith, kindness, and devotion to God.
